St. Vincent Opposition Party Rally Struck By Tragedy

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Dec. 07, 2014, CNS – The leadership of the main opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) in St. Vincent has extended condolences to the widow and family of Edgar Cruickshank.

Cruickshank died after he was struck by a vehicle which came into contact with the crowd during a NDP political rally in Clare Valley Saturday night.

In a statement late Sunday the NDP said its leadership “joins with those who question the circumstances giving rise to the national tragedy at Clare Valley.”

The NDP cited witnesses who confirmed the vehicle was heard to be revving before ploughing into the crowd with its headlights turned off.

Ten injured people, including a child, were taken to the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital by medical, police and private transportation. Cruickshank, who was among persons pinned underneath the car, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, just past midnight.

Police have taken one person into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.
