This Caribbean Prime Minister Has Announced His Third Cabinet Re-Shuffle In A Year

BELMOPAN, Belize, Dec 14 2016 – Prime Minister Dean Barrow has announced a minor Cabinet re-shuffle occasioned by the decision of his attorney general Vanessa Retreage to return to private practice.

Barrow said that as of January 1, next year, Michael Peyrefitte will become the new Attorney General of Belize,” adding that he will also replace her in the Senate.

He said that he will take over the responsibility at the Ministry of Lands that will now be joined with the Ministry of Finance.

“So I will be the new Minister of Lands or Minister of Natural Resources.  Dr. (Carla) Barnett, who is already the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, will, of course, be the Minister of State in the expanded ministry and, quite frankly, it is Dr. Barnett who will have day-to-day charge of the Lands Ministry.”

Barrow said that the Police Ministry “will now go across to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and again with the same arrangement under which Elodio Aragon as the Minister of State will have the de facto leadership of that ministry”.
