Tropical Waves Results in Close to $1 Million in Damages on Tobago

SCARBOROUGH, Tobago, Oct 13 2015 – A tropical wave which has been affecting the island for the past four days has so far resulted in close to $1 million in damages.

That’s according to the Tobago Emergency Operations Centre which concluded its emergency response operations on Sunday after providing relief to residents affected by inclement weather in Tobago over the past four days.

The Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) responded to a total of 139 incidents by affected residents across a wide area of the island.

Teams conducted damage assessment and needs analysis, and TEMA’s preliminary calculations for 50 percent of reports have so far put damages at an estimated cost of $814,248.90.

Following Monday morning’s emergency meeting, TEMA Director Allan Stewart said affected residents shouldn’t rely solely on the Tobago House of Assembly to repair the damage to their homes.
