Venezuelan President Reschedules Visit to St. Kitts and Dominica

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Sep 20 2015 – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has postponed his trip to St. Kitts and Nevis and is expected instead, to visit the Federation this week.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris made the announcement at the People’s Action Movement Dinner on Friday night, saying that due to an ailment, the President would not be coming until this week.

The Venezuelan President was slated to attend St. Kitts and Nevis’ Independence Day Parade and toast to the nation on Saturday morning, and afterwards was scheduled to hand over cheques to displaced sugar workers.  Venezuela has given the St. Kitts and Nevis government EC$16 million to settle compensation claims from former sugar workers.

Though reports were circulating early Friday evening that the President Maduro was not coming, there was no official confirmation until the Prime Minister’s brief statement about an hour after the President was slated to arrive.

Maduro was also scheduled to visit Dominica on Saturday.
