Veteran Grenadian Journalist Leslie Pierre is Dead

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Dec 21, 2014, CNS – Veteran Grenadian Journalist Leslie Pierre died Sunday afternoon after a long period of illness. He was 86.

Pierre was the publisher and editor of The Grenadian Voice Newspaper and also a founding member of the Willie Redhead Foundation.

Besides being a newspaper editor Pierre was, in his earlier years, a scouts commissioner, was involved in publishing the TORCHLIGHT newspaper during the revolution which led to his arrest and imprisonment by the People’s Revolutionary Government (PRG); president of the Grenada Media Workers Association; president of the Jaycees and the St. George’s Rotary Club; was involved in the formation of Rotaract; was an independent delegate on the international whaling commission; and organised and managed the Caribbean Archaeological Society conference held in Grenada in 1999, under the auspices of the Willie Redhead Foundation.

In a statement following his passing, the Media Association of Grenada said: "Through the years he has been a mentor to many local journalists; and an inspiration to us all. The media in Grenada is all better because this editor, writer, commentator and stickler for excellence in reporting, passed this way. We extend condolence to his wife and children, and the staff of the Grenadian Voice newspaper."

Mr. Pierre is survived by his wife Clytie and two children.
