There are direct and indirect sources of a carbon footprinting, measuring Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) or the amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted. Direct sources include burning fuel to use a stove or drive a car. Indirect sources include purchasing products from a company that uses fuel and energy to manufacture their product.

Providing services such as a work gym or on-site childcare will reduce employee’s driving time and GHG emissions. Regarding the production and transportation of goods, companies should consider the efficiency of their production line and be sure to schedule deliveries in as few trips as possible. Some companies impose a minimum delivery amount or require that a truck be filled before heading to a destination.
