PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands, Sept. 21, 2014, CNS – A delegation from the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority is attending a major aviation conference which kicked off on Saturday in Chicago. The four day “World Routes” event is a global gathering for aviation organisations from across all continents, bringing together the largest range of airlines, airports, tourism authorities and civil aviation authorities.
The World Routes conference attracts the most senior representatives from a wide variety of organisations who wish to meet, plan and conduct business for new global routes.
Officials expect about 3,000 people to attend the networking event where officials talk about adding airline routes to different airports. This annual event is the 20th installment, and will see representatives from about 300 airlines, 800 airports and 200 tourism authorities from around the world.
Feature speakers at the event include Scott Kirby, president of American Airlines, and Tim Clark, CEO of Emirates airline.
“This is the world’s premier aviation conference for attracting business,” said Airports Authority CEO John Smith, who is part of the delegation representing Turks and Caicos Islands. “It presents the best opportunity for us to entice new airlines to our shores.”
Apart from John Smith, the Authority’s delegation is made up of the Chairman, Gordon Burton; the Chief Financial Officer, Kenneth Abrams; and Terminal and Marketing Manager, Lavern Reynolds.
“We are expanding our terminal at Providenciales to meet the growing number of passengers flocking to the island, and we are proud to promote that at the conference,” said Lavern Reynolds.
Turks and Caicos Islands will be showcased in the Caribbean Lounge where the Airports Authority’s route policy will be promoted. The new airline and new route policy is aimed at sharing the risk between the airline and the authority. It offers rebates on landing fees and office rentals over the first three years of operation.
