ANTIGUA – Opening of public schools delayed as Irma approaches

The Minister of Education, Science and Technology has announced that all public educational institutions will be closed to students on Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th, September.

Browne said all administrators, pedagogues and staff will report to work Monday, and on Tuesday, if needed, and as directed by each site’s most senior administrator, to make preparations for the possible arrival of Hurricane Irma.

“As MoEST continues to dialogue with the Met Office and the Office Disaster Management, the evolving uncertainty as a result of the fluid developments necessitates our decision,” Browne said.

“We urge all necessary action to secure life and property and urge all to prepare for any eventuality.”
