The National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL) tops the list of laws the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) intends to repeal or amend in its first order of business if it wins the national elections next year.
BLP Leader Mia Mottley made this promise Saturday evening to a large crowd of party members and other supporters gathered at Queen’s Park to hear her speak on the second day of the party’s three-day 79th Annual Conference that began Friday night.
Also high on the agenda for the first day of Parliament following a BLP victory is immediate re-introduction of full Government payment for all Barbadians attending the University of the West Indies.
The Opposition Leader also said that among other legislative measures to be taken on this first day of Parliament will be decriminalizing of illegal vending; establishment of an integrity commission; repeal of the law requiring tax clearance certificates for property transactions; and repeal of the policy requiring tax clearance certificates for foreign exchange transactions.
Mottley made clear that once elected, her government has no intention of selling the Transport Board but will, as with the legislative measures, commence a forensic audit of the state entity’s operations. (Barbados TODAY)
