COVID-19 claims 5 lives in Guyana

Guyana has now recorded five deaths related to COVID-19.

Hours after the Minister of Public Health revealed that there were eight people in the special COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, one of those in a critical state succumbed to the respiratory disease.

He has been identified by close friends as local drag-racer Deryc Jaisingh aka “Mad Dog”.

He was well known at the South Dakota circuit as a champion drag racer and also worked in the mining industry.

A number of his family members are currently in quarantine.

Jaisingh was reportedly recovering well up to a few days ago when his condition worsened and he was taken to the Coronavirus ICU at the Georgetown Hospital.

He passed away Monday evening as doctors battled to save his life.

Guyana has recorded 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with seven of those cases being confirmed over the past two days.

Guyana’s first confirmed case was recorded on March 11.
