CXC Hosting Workshops In Trinidad

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad, Sept. 25, 2014 – The Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) said it is hosting two one-day stakeholder events in Trinidad and Tobago today and tomorrow.

The first event on Thursday 25 September is a seminar for guidance counsellors from Grenada, Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago. The full-day seminar will be held at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre in Couva and will feature presentations from CXC and Students Support Services Divisions representatives.

The goal of the seminar is to provide guidance counsellors with accurate and up-to-date information relating to CXC, its products and services which will empower guidance counsellors to offer better advice to students about the choices they make in school.

During the seminar, participants will learn about the CXC strategic direction, the CXC suite of qualifications, issues related to examinations administration and school based assessment, structure and governance of CXC, career planning, new initiatives and the recognition of CXC qualifications internationally.

This seminar follows similar seminars hosted for guidance counsellors in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean in 2012 and for counsellors from the Western Zone held in Jamaica in 2013.

The second event is a Students’ Forum which will be held at the same venue on Friday 26 September.

The Students’ Forum is expected to bring together close to 500 students and teachers from all secondary schools in the twin-island republic. The forum will give students an opportunity to interact directly with CXC and ministry of education personnel. Students will be able to ask questions, seek clarifications and make recommendations on CXC examinations and services.

The events form part of CXC’s Stakeholder Relationship Management programme for 2014.

“Stakeholder relationship management is a key strategic objective of CXC and students and guidance counsellors are critical stakeholders,” stated Mr Glenroy Cumberbatch, Acting Registrar of CXC. “The interaction with these stakeholders will prove beneficial in promoting mutual understanding between CXC and stakeholders and will provide CXC with feedback which can assist in improving its services to stakeholders.”
