BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Apr 19 2016 – Two St Michael men, jointly charged with four drug-related offences, have been remanded to HMP Dodds following an appearance in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court.
Neither Glyne Leroy Carter, 36, of Odessa McClean Drive, My Lord’s Hill, nor Oswald O’Brien Pitt, 33, of Pinder’s Gap, Howell’s Cross Road, was required to plead to the charges after they were read by Magistrate Kristie Cuffy-Sargeant.
The two men are charged with the April 15 offences of possession, intent to supply, trafficking and having 474 kilogrammes of marijuana within the territorial waters of Barbados.
Sergeant Janice Ifill objected to bail for the men. She cited the seriousness of the allegations, the fact that both men had antecedents and the street value of the cannabis which was estimated at over $2 million.
The prosecutor argued that if the two accused were granted bail, there was the likelihood they would commit similar offences.
Responding, Carter said he was the father of two children and worked in construction as a labourer.
“I am seeking bail from the court so I can return into society and so I can be a father to my children,” he said.
Pitt said he too was the father of two children but was no longer able to work as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest.
“You can check my record and see that I have not been before the court in eight or nine years,” he said, before asking the court for leniency.
After considering all the submissions, Magistrate Cuffy-Sargeant denied bail. The accused men will return to the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on May 13. (Barbados TODAY)
