BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, Apr 19 2016 – An inmate who was found with a small quantity of marijuana at HMP Dodds will spend an additional 90 days at the St Philip penal institution for the offence.
The sentence was handed today to Dwayne Adelbert Bolden, by Acting Chief Magistrate Christopher Birch, after the prisoner pleaded guilty to having four grammes of marijuana.
Bolden told the District ‘C’ Magistrates’ Court that he was already serving 18 years “on a murder charge”.
In his presentation of the facts, Sergeant Azel Skeete said that during the morning of March 20 while Bolden was on duty in the kitchen, a prison officer noticed that he was behaving suspiciously. After he conducted a search, he found the fingertip of a latex glove on Bolden. The item held two small transparent plastic bags with marijuana wrappings as well as a loose quantity of the drug.
When the officer showed the illegal substance to Bolden and asked him to account for it, the prisoner said he found it “on the ground in the kitchen”.
The matter was reported to the police. While being interviewed, Bolden again insisted that he found the substance on the ground.
“I am going to extend your stay by 90 days,” Birch told the convicted man before sentencing him. (Barbados TODAY)
