GUYANA – Pilot confirmed dead by search and rescue team

The pilot of the Air Services Cessna aircraft that went missing early Sunday, is dead.

On Sunday afternoon, shortly after locating the missing aircraft, members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) discovered the lifeless body of the pilot Imran Khan.

The pilot was the only person onboard the aircraft that went down in the jungle.

According to reports, Khan was operating the flight between the villages of Chi-Chi and Mahdia in Region 8 when contact was lost with air traffic controllers.

However, shortly afterwards, another aircraft operating in the same area managed to pinpoint the location based on a signal from the emergency locator transmitter.

The GDF Special Forces team will remain on the ground throughout Sunday night in the vicinity of the crash site and move the body out of the area early Monday.

This is the second fatal accident involving a domestic aircraft in one month.

Last month a Roraima Airways pilot lost his life when his small aircraft went down just after takeoff; and earlier this month another crash involving a Wings Aviation aircraft left its pilot nursing several serious injuries.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
