GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Aug 15 2016 – Guyana police say they have detained several suspects in the beating death of a 13-year-old boy over a female at a function in East Coast Demerara on Sunday night.
In a statement, the police did not disclose how many people were assisting their investigations but said that the teenager, identified as Daveand Sanchar, was chopped on the head with a cutlass and then beaten with a stick.
They said that their investigations have so far indicated that Sanchar who was at a function in the village, had an altercation with some men over a female.
“He (deceased) subsequently left, and returned with a cutlass. A further argument ensued and it was alleged that one of the men took away the cutlass and dealt him a chop to his head. Whilst on the ground, he was given a severe beating with a stick,” according to the police statement.
It said that the victim was rushed the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police said that the suspects are all in custody assisting their investigations.
