Haiti Prepares for CARIFESTA

NEW YORK, Jun 05 2015, CNS – Haiti says it is far advanced in its preparations for the Caribbean premier cultural festival, the Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA).

“Haiti will have this opportunity to receive this big event starting the 21st of August all the way to the 30th of August, nine days,” said Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin.

“We have already 11 countries within the Caribbean that are coming and also some other countries like Mexico and India are invited.”

Preliminary preparations for the Festival at the regional level commenced in June 2014 in Guyana when Haiti presented the hosting proposal for CARIFESTA XII to Directors of Culture at the Twenty-Second meeting of the Regional Cultural Committee.

CARIFESTA is the region’s roving multi-disciplinary, mega-event that showcases the cultural expressions of artists in more than 30 countries in the Caribbean.

It was established in 1972 by regional government leaders to celebrate the arts, foster a vision of Caribbean unity and to positively advance Caribbean culture regionally and internationally.
