HAITI – Social Affairs and Labour minister fired

The appointment of the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Roosevelt Bellevue, has been revoked amid widespread speculation of his alleged involvement in the over-charging of kits to school children in Haiti

“Combating corruption and impunity is one of my commitments. I shall put all my strength into it. An act of corruption presupposes the presence of corrupters. All are subject to the same penalties,” President Jovenel Moïse said.

A notice appearing in the official newspaper Le Moniteur, said that the decree revoking the appointment had been issued and that Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, had been appointed to act as Minister of Social Affairs and Labour.

But Bellevue has denied any involvement in any corruption case claiming that the accusations of his involvement in the alleged corruption matter were being done by a group determined to tarnish his reputation.

Education Minister Pierre Josué Agenor Cadet, has also denied any involvement in the school kits fiasco saying he has not signed any contract to date.
