Hundreds of teachers in Trindad and Tobago still awaiting back pay

More than 400 teachers in Trinidad & Tobago are expressing frustration as they claim to have not received their back pay, despite a government promise to disburse the payments by the end of 2023.

The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) has confirmed this concerning delay, emphasizing their disappointment with the Education Ministry for extending the deadline to December 31 and yet failing to meet it.

The TTUTA, representing teachers across the nation, had entered into a four per cent agreement with the government back in July.

This agreement was established with the understanding that teachers would receive their long-awaited back pay within the stipulated timeframe.

Minister of Education, Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, has attributed the delay to the holiday season but assures the affected teachers and the public that efforts to expedite the payment process will resume this month.
