Injunction hearing between Grenada Gov’t and Trade Union re-scheduled to Wednesday

Acting Attorney General Kindra Maturine-Stewart has confirmed that the injunction hearing that was scheduled for Sunday afternoon between the Government of Grenada and Trade Unions representing essential services public workers, has been postponed until Wednesday.

“Both parties agreed that the matter will be heard on Wednesday giving each party more preparation time,” Maturine-Stewart said approximately 90 minutes before that the hearing time.

Meanwhile, Labour Minister Peter David has written to the Unions involved in the impasse requesting a meeting with the relevant representatives on Monday at 2 p.m. (local time).

Government and trade unions representing public workers are at a standstill in negotiations for the reformation of pension and gratuity for retired officers. 

The Grenada Union of Teachers was the first to announce its intention to be off the job for two days during the first week of November, by the second week workers of the Public Workers Union joined in the protest.

On Friday, the union announced that teachers will be off the job on Monday and will have a mass rally on Tuesday for public workers.

During last week’s post cabinet briefing, Planning Minister Oliver Joseph said the Government’s Negotiating Team wanted the union to return to the negotiating table.

However, Lydon Lewis, President of the GUT said his union will only return if Government accepts the 25 per cent as proposed by the Union.
