JAMAICA – Seven patrons shot at fish fry

Seven people were shot and injured on Saturday at a dance and fish fry in Hanover.

Investigators say the organizers were not granted a permit to stage the event which was held at a bar on Barnes Lane, in Mountpelier.

According to the Sandy Bay Police, about 1:15 in the morning, a dispute developed between two patrons. Firearms were drawn, and as the dispute escalated shots were fired.

It was later discovered that seven patrons had sustained bullet wounds.

The promoter of the event, 36-year-old Oneil Henry, has been charged with breaches of the Noise Abatement Act and the Spirit Licences Act.

The charges include Operating Without a Permit and Operating Beyond Opening Hours.

Henry is scheduled to appear in the Sandy Bay Court on Thursday.

Investigators say Henry did not apply for a permit.
