Police Officer Among Four Killed In Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica, Mar 25 2017 – Jamaica police Saturday urged its members to be vigilant after gunmen shot and killed a police corporal in Clarendon on Friday night.

“Even as we mourn the loss of our colleague, we remain vigilant and will continue to push back against lawlessness,” Acting Police Commissioner Novlette Grants said.

Corporal Kevin McLean, 37, was killed after he attempted to stop the robbery of two Chinese nationals.

McLean was reportedly on his way home from work when he came upon the gunmen who were in the process of robbing the Chinese. They reportedly opened fire at him, hitting him multiple times.

He was pronounced dead at hospital.

Grant said the Police High Command would encourage frontline members to make their personal safety a top priority.

Meanwhile, three people, including a 47-year-old woman, were shot and killed in Hanover, on the northwestern tip of the island on Friday night.

Police said that Marcia Johnson and her common-law-husband Authur Noel Muir, 49, as well as a 49-year-old man, Peter Aitchison were killed by gunmen.

The police said residents had reported hearing several gunshots and on arrival found Johnson and Muir, who owned and operated a restaurant, and Aitchison who reportedly operated a nearby bar.

An unnamed person was injured in the incident.

The police are yet to establish a motive for the murders.
