Senior Trinidad police officer on half million dollar bail

A senior police officer has been placed on half a million dollars bail after he appeared in magistrates’ court charged with abduction, false imprisonment and three sexual offences against a 16-year-old mother.

Police inspector Christopher Fuentes, 55, who has 35 year service and was on pre-retirement leave, appeared in the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court, north-east of here on Thursday following an offence that occurred on March 15 this year.

The senior police officer was arrested last week after he reported that his police-issued pistol loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, wallet, and gold chain were stolen.

The senior officer alleged that the 16-year-old girl stole the items from his Sangre Grande home on March 15.

Another police officer, acting corporal Dindial Joseph, also appeared in court charged with sexual touching and was granted TT$80,000 bail.

They will return to court on September 11.

Police also charged the 16-year-old girl with larceny of Fuentes’ police-issued firearm that was loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition, wallet, and gold chain.

She was taken before the Children’s Court in Port of Spain and will return to court on April 8.
