Ava’s Courtyard: What’s so Alluring About Caribbean Men?

by Ava Brown – CNS Contributor

May 10 2015 – When I walk around London I often get mistaken for a West African woman: why is this is the case? It may be due to my curvaceousness and somewhat African features. Of course most African men become extremely disappointed when they address me in either Yoruba, Igbo (Nigerian Language) or Twe (Ghanian Language) only to find out that I am none of the above. Most times I just drop some good old Jamaican patios on them and that does the trick, they keep on walking.

Men generally become truly jealous when they learn you are not interested in them, especially if they feel that the reason is that you only date Caribbean men or prefer Caribbean men. They don’t tend to think it’s owing to some sort of commonality; instead it’s the misconception that Caribbean men are “stallions”.

This has been a well-known myth in London between both sexes, whether they be Caribbean or not. These women are often mad when they see a fine looking Caribbean man with a woman of a different origin, especially if that Caribbean sister is single.

Please bear in mind these observations are from feedback and past experience. I don’t wish to discriminate or offend any other nationality, but the top reasons Caribbean Men are celebrated are:

  1. Caribbean men are thought of as gifted and endowed. Of course we cannot stereotype hence the reason why there are calypso songs such as ‘Swinging Engine’, ‘Sugar Cane’ and references to them being good in the plumbing area!

    2. They have the stamina and ability to endure. Perhaps its ego and pride or maybe they pride themselves in their ability to last the distance and would prefer to break their backs instead of conceding defeat. Good or bad, it is what it is. They are known for drinking all sorts of bush remedies that are felt to assist in peak horseback power performance. Even the most “roughest” of West Indian men can be quite particular about personal hygiene, diet, and their body’s overall health. Tonics, cod liver oil and vitamins are usually a part of a West Indian man’s health regime to ensure that he is healthy and strong.

    3. They are good with their hands. If you have the right Caribbean man in your house, there is no need for a plumber, carpenter or painter. They are generally very good at being handy men all round. This has the potential of being double blessings in the bedroom too.

    4. They know how to whip up a meal. Caribbean men are very apt in the kitchen, they will whip you an omelette so tasty you’ll never want to do five star again. Takeaway isn’t an option for our men, so they make sure they took notes when their mother’s toiled in the kitchen seasoning the meat and boiling vegetables. The icing on the cake is that it’s neither a requirement nor a preference for their partners too.

    5. Caribbean men love and adore their mamas. They say watch a man’s relationship with his mother and it says a lot about what you will get. Caribbean men don’t play games with their mothers and they stay away from women who try to separate them from their mothers and other close women in their family. Ladies you want to win him over? Treat his mama right.

    6. Caribbean men are big on hygiene. No disrespect to any other men but there are times, when I come into contact with some men, and their femur just makes me want to yoke.  For the most part, a Caribbean man won’t fall asleep without his teeth being brushed and having had a shower.  They pride themselves on smelling fresh, hence songs like “All who nuh bathe from morning run go hold a fresh” and newer songs such as “Everyday mi clean as mi wake me clean”.

  2. They are smooth talkers. Wow! The thick Caribbean accent alone will blow your mind, coupled with the pick up lines: “Baby mi love you before you born”; “You are the ackee to mi salftish”. Which girl wouldn’t smile at such statements? The one that blows my mind the most is “If beauty was water you would be the ocean.”
  3. The icing to the cake is that they look like brown sugar. Which woman wouldn’t want to taste? All in all the Caribbean man is rounded and alluring. It’s obvious why most women, regardless of culture or creed would want to have some form of encounter with them. If it’s not the cooking, it may be for the loving.

Big up my yutes!

  1. A great article until the bit about ‘brown sugar’. Caribbean men come in all different colours with almost all of the same characteristics that you mentioned. Notably our darker and fairer skinned brethren.
