ST JOHN’S, Antigua, Apr 21 2016 – Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Senator Harold Lovell has issued an ultimatum to ‘dissenters’ within the party to leave willingly or be kicked out.

“I am inviting those brothers and sisters within the United Progressive Party who are unhappy with their membership in the party, to take the necessary steps to divorce themselves from the party as spelt out in the constitution,” Lovell said.

He stated further, “If they are not inclined to take those steps, if they plan to stay within the ranks of the UPP, with the sole purpose of dividing and undermining the family, then we are going to take steps to remove them from the party.”

The declaration by the political leader came almost a week after he used his constitutional power of veto to exclude All Saints East and St Luke MP Joanne Massiah from the UPP’s slate of candidates for the next general elections.

Lovell said that over the past 22 months, the party has exercised restraint and tolerance by allowing time for “persons who have their personal agendas and vendettas to come to terms with the fact that there has been a change within the party”.

He said that, going forward, the new executive will no longer tolerate the actions of the ‘dissenters’.
